TECHNICAL OPERATOR / SOIL TECHNICIAN / FIELD SOIL TECHNICIAN (VIC)  

FMG Research is an independent NATA accredited soil, concrete and materials testing laboratory located in Williamstown, Vic. Due to continued growth we have expanded our laboratory into Victoria and now seek candidates to fill a number of positions with our laboratory testing team: Technical Operator, Soil Technician and Field Soil Technician.

The roles available vary from entry level to experienced soil technicians. While experience is not essential, a strong work ethic, willingness to listen and learn, along with the ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction from senior staff are essential to this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine laboratory testing of soil, concrete and aggregates as instructed by supervising Soils Technician, in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Carry out designated tests strictly in accordance with laboratory procedures
  • Ensure testing outputs are met and exceeded
  • Maintain and set up equipment for use in testing
  • Operate and calibrate instruments
  • Classify and log samples to AS1726.

Skills and Experience
Applicants possessing any of the following will be highly regarded:

  • TAFE or similar course in laboratory testing or related discipline
  • Year 12 SACE Certificate
  • Strong employment record
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction
  • Experience in soils, concrete and aggregate testing in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Deemed to be proficient to carry out soil, concrete and aggregate testing.

SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER / TEAM LEADER (SA) 

Are you a Senior Structural Engineer with aspirations to manage a small team and a drive to grow project portfolio?

Ideal candidates would include experienced and qualified structural engineers with at least 8-10 years of demonstrated structural design experience. Previous people management and leadership experience will be highly regarded.

What is the role? 

Your role would see you working closely with the technical lead and senior engineers to ensure the team works productively and efficiently to achieve company and customer objectives. Ensuring quality is to the highest standard whilst meeting client service levels will be of high importance. You should be comfortable that your strong communication skills will allow you to confidently communicate and liaise with clients, builders and architects – Building trust and helping to secure project work.

The role is diverse and ideally suited to someone who enjoys balancing their time between client management, building business, team management whilst at times still being ‘hands on’ and undertaking structural design, and structural design review.

 As the ideal candidate you will have: 

  • Degree qualifications in structural engineering and design
  • Minimum 10 years of structural design experience is desirable for this role
  • Charted Engineers status would be beneficial, or the desire to become chartered
  • Demonstrated experience (within Australia) in residential and/or commercial structural engineering, steel, concrete, precast
  • Desire to win

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams or have leadership aspirations
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with a variety of people including builders, architects and trades people

 JUNIOR SOIL TECHNICIAN  (SA)  

Due to continued growth we are seeking a Junior Technical Operator to join our team and undertake laboratory testing.

This is an entry level position; experience is not essential but advantageous. A strong work ethic, reliable, honest, willingness to listen and learn, along with the ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction from senior staff are essential to this position. This position would ideally suit school leavers.

Key Responsibilities

SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - RESIDENTIAL  (SA)  

Primarily the role will be working within a team of other experienced engineers and designers working on large and small residential projects and medium density developments.

 Formal qualifications in structural or civil engineering is required, and you must be able to demonstrate a minimum of 4 years prior work experience in this field, within Australia.

 Ideally your experience would include a combination of the following:

  •  Residential footing design
  • Residential civil design
  • Residential structural design
  • CAD drafting
  • Knowledge and interpretation of soil data
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential for this position.

 JUNIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - RESIDENTIAL (SA)  

Due to an increase in workload we are seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the role of Junior Structural Engineer within the Victorian Residential Team. Your role will be to provide structural engineering design solutions for a wide range of residential projects.

 As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • Bachelor Degree qualifications in civil/structural engineering and design
  • Minimum 2-3 years of structural design experience in residential and/or volume housing projects
  • Demonstrated experience (within Australia) in residential medium density projects
  • Experience and knowledge of residential footing/slab (raft and waffle) design and timber/steel framing
  • Competent CAD drafting skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with a variety of people including builders, architects and trades people

PERSONAL ASSISTANT / OFFICE ADMINSTRATOR  (VIC)  

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Personal Assistant/Office Administrator to provide support to our senior management team across a number of our business units.

This position will be located at Hawthorn, Victoria and it is available for immediate start. 

What is the role?

This newly created role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced Personal Assistant/Office Administrator.  As a PA, your core responsibility will be to provide daily support to our National Forensic Manager/Director and will provide support with growth of the business.  Tasks will include diary and email management, travel, maintenance of the CRM, assistance with proposals and general administration support.

This role will also support other members of our management team as required and be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the office as a whole.  Maintaining stakeholder relationships both internally and externally will be key to the role.

What skills and experience do you need?

  • Highly organised and able to effectively prioritise tasks 
  • A high level of verbal and written communication skills is essential
  • Advanced level of experience across the Microsoft office suite
  • Must be proactive and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional customer service 
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Experience within the building / construction industry preferred, but not necessary

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a PA and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
