FMG Engineering is seeking a qualified and talented environmental scientist with contaminated land management experience to join our team in Victoria.

What is the role?
This position offers you the opportunity to make your mark by building a small environmental to support our urban development works. You will develop and refine reporting lines, systems and procedures with best practice in mind.  There will be a significant focused on bidding, winning and delivering new work.

 What skills and experience do you need?

  • Degree qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering environmental projects in the areas of due diligence, contaminated land investigations (including assessment for environmental audits), risk assessment and remediation
  • Site Contamination Practitioner certification
  • Sound knowledge of current environmental legislation, standards and guidelines
  • Proven project management expertise in the relevant industry
  • Experience managing/structuring a team
  • Demonstrated client contact, liaison and management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in field sampling techniques
  • Established relationships with builders, developers, architects, urban planners and project managers (highly desirable)
  • Computer software experience using ESdat, gINT, ProUCL, Surfer, GW Chart etc (highly desirable)
  • A driver’s licence

Employing around 90 people in South Australia and 60 people in Melbourne, FMG Engineering is a very well known and respected multi-disciplined national engineering consultancy. Who are we seeking?

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced administrator to provide administrative support to our Research Materials lab.

What is the role?

The role is to provide administration support and assistance for our Research Materials lab.  You will be working within a small team of administrators, technicians and engineers and will be communicating daily with clients over the phone and via email. Although the administration support required will be broad and varied, the core responsibility of this role will be to enter new sales orders, track in-progress work, invoice completed work and attend to client queries while providing general office duty support for the Research team.

 What skills and experience do you need?

  • A happy and easy-going demeanor with a willingness to learn and improve
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Exceptional customer services including verbal, phone and written communication skills are essential
  • Enjoy and work best in a busy and fast paced environment

  • The ability to, from time to time, work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Solid typing and data entry skills
  • Strong computing skills with experience of Microsoft office programs (outlook, excel, word etc)

Due to continued growth, FMG Research (our NATA accredited soil, concrete and materials testing laboratory) is seeking candidates to fill a number of positions within our laboratory testing team as Technical Operator, Soil Technician and Field Soil Technician.

The roles available vary from entry level to experienced soil technicians. While experience is not essential, a strong work ethic, willingness to listen and learn, along with the ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction from senior staff are essential to this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine laboratory testing of soil, concrete and aggregates in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Carry out designated tests strictly in accordance with laboratory procedures
  • Ensure testing outputs are met and exceeded
  • Maintain and set up equipment for use in testing
  • Operate and calibrate instruments
  • Classify and log samples to AS1726

Skills and Experience

Applicants possessing any of the following will be highly regarded:

  • TAFE or similar course in laboratory testing or related discipline
  • Year 12 SACE Certificate
  • Strong employment record
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction
  • Experience in soils, concrete and aggregate testing in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Deemed to be proficient to carry out soil, concrete and aggregate testing
