STRUCTURAL ENGINEER / SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (SA)

Due to an increase in workload we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill the role of Structural Engineer / Senior Structural Engineer. Your role will be to provide structural engineering design solutions for residential and commercial structures, ensure quality assurance across engineering reports completed by others, lead and mentor other structural engineers.

As the ideal candidate you will have: 

  • Degree qualifications in structural engineering and design
  • Minimum 5 years of structural design experience is essential for this role
  • Demonstrated experience (within Australia) in residential and/or commercial structural engineering
  • Experience and knowledge of residential civil and footing designs preferred
  • Competent CAD drafting skills preferred, but not necessary
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams or have leadership aspirations
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with a variety of people including builders, architects and trades people

SENIOR GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER / GEOTECHNICAL MANAGER (SA)

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Input to the strategic direction of the business unit
  • Seek and develop new business opportunities

  • Undertake geotechnical investigations, assessments and report writing
  • Provide geotechnical advice to internal and external clients
  • Liaise with clients, with regards to preparation of quotes and tenders
  • Supervising, mentoring and peer reviewing the technical work of other team members
  • Interact with and provide guidance within our NATA accredited materials testing laboratory (AN 544)

Key selection criteria:

  • A minimum 5 years’ experience (for senior role) or 10 years' experience (for management role) in geotechnical engineering/engineering geology
  • Tertiary qualifications in civil/geotechnical engineering or related discipline
  • Familiar with South Australian soil conditions
  • Proven skills in building and maintaining client relationships
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong report writing ability
  • Strong project management skills
  • Flexibility to work either in the office, out on site or interstate
  • Experience with geotechnical software packages is highly regarded

GRADUATE ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITIES - FIELD SOIL TECHNICIAN (SA)

FMG Research House is an independent NATA accredited soil, concrete and materials testing laboratory located in Norwood. We are seeking graduate engineers who are wishing to develop a career in geotechnical engineering and are available to work full-time..

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine laboratory testing of soil, concrete and aggregates in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Maintain, set up and calibrate equipment for use in testing
  • Classify and log samples to AS1726
  • Undertake Level 1 inspection and testing of civil and earthworks projects
  • Liaise with civil contractors and clients to optimise earthworks processes and projects
  • Undertake routine sampling and testing of soils and compaction testing for civil engineering projects
  • Liaise with clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures and results
  • Prepare and check test reports and other documentation
  • Maintain, calibrate and operate equipment in accordance with quality guidelines
  • Carry out general administration and prepare documentation in accordance with quality guidelines
  • Ensure all tasks undertaken are consistent with safe work practices and adhere to requirements of WHS policies
Skills and Experience
Ideal candidates will have the following attributes:

  • Comfortable working in a soils laboratory and in the field, alongside other engineers and technicians

TECHNICAL OPERATOR (SA)

FMG Research House is an independent NATA accredited soil, concrete and materials testing laboratory located in Norwood. Due to continued growth we seek a Technical Operator to join our team and undertake laboratory testing.

This is an entry level position; experience is not essential but advantageous. A strong work ethic, willingness to listen and learn, along with the ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction from senior staff are essential to this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine laboratory testing of soil, concrete and aggregates as instructed by supervising Soils Technician, in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Carry out designated tests strictly in accordance with laboratory procedures
  • Ensure testing outputs are met and exceeded
  • Maintain and set up equipment for use in testing
  • Operate and calibrate instruments
  • Classify and log samples to AS1726

Skills and Experience
Applicants possessing any of the following will be highly regarded:

  • TAFE or similar course in laboratory testing or related discipline
  • Year 12 SACE Certificate
  • Strong employment record
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to follow procedures methodically and take direction
  • Experience in soils, concrete and aggregate testing in accordance with AS1289, AS1012 and AS1141
  • Deemed to be proficient to carry out soil, concrete and aggregate testing
