South Road Superway

SITE |  South Road, Angle Park SA

CLIENT  |  Urban Superway - Consortium of John Holland, McMahon Contractors and Leed Engineering

CONSTRUCTION VALUE  |  $842 million

PROJECT PERIOD  |  2012-14

Constructed above one of Adelaide’s busiest roads, the South Road Superway is a 4.8 km, multi-lane, non-stop roadway featuring 2.5 km of raised road platforms - one of the longest in Australia and South Australia's first.

FMG Engineering was engaged to provide geotechnical advice and complete compaction control testing during construction.

Working with GHD, the FMG team designed pads for the piling rig and cranes that were suitable for soft soils with low bearing capability. This service led to our client being able to efficiently supply safe working platforms for the cranes and piling rig.

Supplying test results within 48 hrs was the key to ensuring that hold-ups were avoided during the project.
