IKEA

SITE  |  Sydney Business Park, Marsden Park, NSW

CLIENT   FDC & IKEA

CONSTRUCTION VALUE  |  Approx. $60 million

IKEA’s first purpose-built distribution centre in Australia is far from the flat-pack, ready-to-assemble solution we have come to know.

FMG's expert structural team provided design, documentation and certification for the footings, floors, structural steel, precast panels and carried out site inspections at critical stages. A comprehensive knowledge of the site kept the project on track and saved the client from costly time delays.

Utilising the full suite of FMG's civil and structural services enabled the optimisation of our client’s site layout to accommodate the large-scale warehouse and a 1,390 square metre office building, pallet store and guardhouse - Increasing the functionality of the project site.

An innovative flooring solution was developed to ensure the client's automated picking system could be successfully installed – Allowing for 24/7 operation from opening day.

This distribution centre improved IKEA’s efficiency, lowered supply chain related costs and equipped IKEA with the capacity for their new online shopping option.

Project Benefits

  • FMG’s comprehensive understanding of the site allowed for a worry-free process throughout critical stages of the project – Reducing uncertainty and stress during the project process.
  • The BOSFA flooring solution ensured the slab was perfectly flat to accommodate the automated picking system, ensuring the new facility would run trouble-free, at full capacity from opening day -  With no loss of income due to system delays.
